the process
How it works
|
In coaching, we work together to build self-awareness and cultivate action out of discovery. We talk a lot. We talk about your values, we talk about your fears, we talk about where you want to go and what’s getting in the way.
I ask questions, lots of questions. Sometimes they are weird, sometimes they are profound, sometimes they make you bend your head slightly to the side and question my sanity. Don’t worry, that’s intentional. I assure you I’m sane. I’m just a perspective-shifter, that’s all, it’s part of the job. I use countless hours of training, research, and knowledge in coaching, positive intelligence, and neuroscience to help you gain personal insight from areas of yourself you hadn’t thought to look to for answers.
I watch body language and listen to inflection. I notice a lot of things and I point them out. And when I see patterns of limiting beliefs, I call them to the table, slam a spotlight on them, and use a science-backed methodology to uncoil them from your nervous system. The results are often confused with some kind of sorcery.
Consider me a Merlin-like mirror ball reflecting and refracting your light.
And then we take all of this discovery we get together and pair it with action. That’s the key, the special sauce that makes all the other stuff feel like progress.
I work mainly with leaders, creatives, and status quo discontents, readying them for an expansion of responsibilities, an acclimation to a new undertaking, succeeding while adjusting to a transition, exploring change in their career path and/or the acceleration of their career trajectory. Coaching happens virtually over Zoom - my clients live all over the country - or via phone.
Together we design what model fits best for you.
Psssst!
Coaching gets compared to therapy a lot but they are not the same thing. Here are some of the ways they are different just in case you were curious:
Coaching
Views both parties as creative, resourceful, and whole.
Does not diagnose or treat.
Trained to work with functioning clients.
Co-Active model.
Coach and clients on a peer basis.
Alliance designed by coach and client together.
Emphasis on present and future.
Focus on evolving and manifesting potential.
Solution-oriented.
Accountability between sessions held as important.
Therapy
More apt to view clients from a medical model.
Diagnoses and treats.
Trained to work with major mental illness.
Therapist is the “expert.”
Hierarchial difference between therapist and client.
Treatment plan largely design by therapist.
Emphasis on past and present.
Focus on healing and understanding.
Problem-oriented.
Accountability less commonly expected.
